Seventeen- Face the Sun

I am very much an out of sight, out of mind kind of person, so I lowkey forgot Seventeen existed. They popped up on my YouTube recommended the other day and I had a Seventeen renaissance, if you will. I watched their new mv, Hot, which was... hot, and then I watched their Dingo performance which reminded me of how much I love their discography. The next thing I know, I am binging Going Seventeen and ended up on "got tickets for the Seventeen tour" TikTok. Am I jealous? Very. I am a broke ass bitch who only just bought a keyboard despite my laptop keyboard not working for over a year now. (It's one of those really cute Ubotie ones and I am actually pretty psyched about it) Anyway, since I have fully immersed myself in Seventeen, I thought I might as well talk about the comeback.

First of all, the promotions for this comeback is like Exo debut level of effort. I love the 13 Inner Shadows teasers. They have absolutely nothing to do with the album, but they are hella artsy and I love the effort Hybe is putting into this. I saw a clip of Seungkwan talking about these trailers and how it's about their fears and inner feelings, which definitely makes sense. There were themes of loneliness, being trapped, monotony, constant societal pressure, etc. My favorite teaser was DK's. Every time I see him, he is always very bright and making jokes, so there are definitely times where it is for show and he really isn't feeling up to it. I think we can all relate to having to hide our negative emotions since they are seen as something that is just ugly and uncomfortable rather than just a part of life. So, yeah, I really love these sort of artsy teasers. It really shows that the company is promoting the artists while also giving them the creative liberties to show the public what they want. We have always sort of seen this with Seventeen with a lot of self produced music, self written lyrics, and self choreographed dances, but it's still nice to see that they have so much say in what they do artistically. I also watched the highlight medley for the album. Of course, I knew Darl+ing already because it came out a month ago. So with the exception of Darl+ing, I was most excited for Don Quixote, Domino, and 'bout you. I really was not looking forward to Ash because that just is not my type of music.

The chokehold that this song has me in is insane. It is constantly in my head. Everyone sounds so fucking good. Special shoutout to Wonwoo and DK though they really blew me away. I am obsessed with Wonwoo's first line. His voice is wonderfully deep and hearing him singing just makes me smile a bit. Everyone knows DK can sing, like he's main vocal for a reason. I feel like I take him for granted though. His first line in the song really reminded me of how gorgeous his voice is and just what a great singer he is. The aesthetics of the video are also stunning. I love the colors they used. It felt very warm, comforting, and somewhat nostalgic. I am also a sucker for the styling for this song. Every single performance, they look ethereal. The color scheme and the dandy styling looks so good. A great example is the outfits in the photo below. The color scheme is stunning and I am obsessed with Dino's and Hoshi's styling. They look so fucking good. Dino's shirt is so cute and he looks so good in it. And my boy Hoshi. I love his short hair, like it looks so good on him. His baggy blue suit is so pretty. I love the color on him, and the fit is perfect (we love a baggy suit). Everyone's outfit is great (except for Joshua's sweater, I hate fringe) and the colors just naturally match so they look cohesive,  I am just obsessed with the styling.

I usually wouldn't like this song, but I think what really sells it for me is the chorus. It is like The Boyz's Breaking Dawn, where I am just in awe with how hot they look dancing that part. I think my brain just starts liking the song because it is associated with hot guys. I swear to god I fell in love with every member that sang the "Hot" part. I only wish Wonwoo was center for one of those parts, but I guess it would've been too hot and burnt down the stage. Everyone killed it this comeback though. I am obsessed with watching the fancams for this song, and I have found some pretty gold ones like this S. Coups one (Holy shit does he absolutely kills this performance. He knows what he is doing.) Actually, S. Coups pretty much kills every performance of this song. This song is perfect for him. He looks like he is having such great time, and having him do the first chorus is genius. I am completely enamored with him every time I see him on my screen, so I really feel like this is his song. The styling for this one was pretty hit or miss for me. I think I like their black and red outfits for the comeback show the best, because some of the other ones were pretty random (Inkigayo 5/29, I'm looking at you). I am hoe for those small sunglasses, mesh shirts, and motor uniform aesthetic that were used for that stage. There are still some more to go, so we can see how I'll feel in the future. I will say, everyone's hair looks fantastic this comeback. The hairstylist deserves a raise. TLDR, I am obsessed with watching these fancams because everyone looks hot as hell. I think I am classically conditioning myself into really liking this song.

Not the biggest fan of this song, which is a shame because I was looking forward to this song. The background music really has that 2010s EDM party feel. The song as a whole really brings back to the 2010s. I do actually really like Mingyu's and Dino's part (1:34), maybe it's because there was no backing music there.... They both sounded really good there though. I didn't even think it was Mingyu singing that part, but he sounded amazing I absolutely loved his voice there. I feel a little a duped though because that was the part included in the medley (probably because they knew that was the best part)

Also not the biggest fan of this one. I really like the rock vibes from this one, but something was off. At first, I was vibing with the song until the weird synth chords 8 seconds in. The song is like a weird mix between rock and 80s synth. It is kind of jarring for me. I think the synth in the background really just throws me for a loop.

I have mixed feelings about this song. There are some parts that I absolutely love. This includes the first 53 seconds of the song, the rap break, and any other part of the song that are repeats of those. (Apparently, I am Mingyu stan now because this is the second song in this album where his part is my favorite). Specific details I am obsessed with are the piano glissandos (they are just so fun) and the "Take it all" and "Here we go" parts. Those parts are just so so good. That's why I am so disappointed by the chorus. I just am not a fan of empty Charlie Puth-esque choruses, especially after that fun glissando. I really wanted the chorus to be bright and funky, much like the beginning of the song, instead of what we got. I don't know, maybe it will grow on me, but I know that a part of me will always be a little disappointed.

I don't really have much to say about this song. It doesn't really stand out to me. The background music doesn't have anything particularly interesting going on. This normally isn't a big deal for me, but there's also not much happening vocally either, so I am just kind of bored. My favorite part is the rap break, again, which is surprising for me because that usually isn't the case for me but I guess I am just whipped for Seventeen's rap breaks.

I love this song. I am so happy this exists. It's so fun and right up my alley. The backing track is funky and light, and we have some amazing vocal moments for a more k-hip hop vibe. I am obsessed with the little runs like the one at around 10 seconds in. DK also kills the bridge like excuse me he sounds so good. The rapping parts are also so fun and full of character. If I had to chose my favorite rap section, it would be S. Coups's, I love his little "kaho". Unrelated to the song, but I need to talk the Comeback Show stage for this song. First of all, Jun's shirt. Why the fuck is there just a random glass of water on his burnt orange button up? Is it to satiate the thirsty fans? If so, thank you, but I am still quite confused. I also wanted to talk about Wonwoo in this stage. I love this man. He is such a vibe, and I love that he ended this song.

I figured from the highlight medley that this was gonna be a ballad. As I have said I lot on this blog, I am not the biggest fan of ballads. I just find them kind of boring and a downer. I am sorry to disappoint, this song is no exception. I will say that they sound absolutely fantastic. Every time someone sang, I was completely blown away and was so impressed with just how amazing they sound. The rap line always surprises me with how well they sing, like there really is no vocal hole. Shout out to DK though, for reminding me again why he is main vocal because I loved him at 2:24. I could listen to that part over and over again like he sounds so angelic.

I definitely got whiplash listening to this song after IF you leave me. Who decided that these two songs should go next to each other in the album. To no one's surprise, I do  not like this song. I lowkey hate the backing track and the use of autotune. I do not mean this as an insult but this song kind of reminds me of Stray Kids's We Go. It definitely is a more a trap styled rap, which really isn't the kind of music I like. One thing I did like was Vernon's rap at 1:05. "Ash on, Ash on, Ash on, Ash on, Ash ssain gaunde" is such a good part like serious props for that. Yeah, other than that, I am sad to say that I did not like the song.

So, this album was a mixed bag for me. I am obsessed with Darl+ing and 'bout you. Hot is already growing on me and I am sure Domino will as well. The rest, I might listen to those very specific parts on repeat, but I will probably not listen to the entire song again. Anyway, that's my review. It's not my usual, essentially only positive things to say kind of post. I was just really excited to listen to this album, and share my love for Seventeen. I still am massive fans of them. I definitely believe that you don't have to love every single thing one of your favorite bands' do. If you do, that's great. if you don't, that doesn't make you any less of a fan. Even though, I don't love every single song in the album, I have found a greater appreciation for all of the members and really am in awe of how talented they are. I am having an amazing time watching the fan cams for Hot and catching up on Going Seventeen. So... Um... Yeah...

Sailor Moon- Jadeite

After a watching a video on Sailor Moon that was constantly on my recommended on YouTube, I was reminded with how much I loved this show. This, of course, led me to rewatch the entire show because wasting hours of my life for no reason is my favorite past time. I also found that I seriously lacked anime content so that led me to want to write about it. I was trying to figure out how writing this would work because there are a lot of episodes which means I'm not going to review Sailor Moon as a whole because I would forget the beginning by the time I got to the end. I also would not review every single episode because again there are a lot and since it's a superhero show there are a lot of "throw away" episodes. (This also lead me to want to create an "essential viewing" list, which would include only episodes that I think is important in regards to plot or character development.) The arcs themselves are quite large and are split into even smaller parts with ...

NCT Dream- Chewing Gum

Ok, so, another sub group of NCT, NCT Dream, came out Chewing Gum. This might be favorite single that NCT came out with. It's so bright, fun, and cute. Every time I see the video I break out into a smile. The story is pretty lighthearted, and it's very entertaining to watch. I absolutely love the bright colors that they use throughout the video. It really adds to the group's cute and bright theme. I found the video quite interesting to watch. They had a variety of different sets, including the ones made by the computer, and all of them were of bright colors. I also enjoyed the electronic made backgrounds for when the members had the closeups. Each person had a different animated background, so it was interesting to see what was behind them. I also kind of funny that they were using those hoverboard-thingies. (I have no idea what they're called, but I think it's a hoverboard?) The song is quite catchy, and I could probably listen to it over and over again for hou...

Astro- Baby

For those who might know, Astro is a somewhat new group under Fantagio that debuted in 2016. I have been fans of theirs since I watched To Be Continued, which is available on Netflix. 😉 (Check it out!) Sanha has to be my bias 💛, but Moon Bin is such a bias wrecker. 😖 I LOVE this song! It continues their fresh, sweet, and fun concept that they have kept since debut. However, this is less cutesy and right up my alley. It's smooth but still bright, which is absolutely perfect. It has that certain funk to it that is irresistible and insanely catchy. The reoccurring beat is sooo catchy and is great. The electric guitar at 2:43 is EPIC!! I'd have to say though that the ending has to be my favorite part. That beautiful harmony hits the spot, and is perfection. But, Sanha singing the 2nd chorus was really great as well (I really love his voice 💛) One thing I love about this video is how it's filmed in first person so it feels as if you are truly experiencing what's happ...
