I watched the first season of this drama a couple of months go and was absolutely obsessed. I was so hooked on the show. Every minute I was not binging it, I was thinking about it. It probably took me a little over a weekend to watch, because I am a college student and, sadly, the work never ends. Unfortunately, when looking up the actors for the show while watching, I was spoiled over the ending for the first season. I really felt like it detracted from my viewing experience, so a heads up, if you have not watched the first season of Yumi's Cells and do not want to be spoiled, do not read ahead.

As I said before, this show had such a chokehold over me. My every waking minute was spent thinking about this show. I had fallen head over heels for the male lead. I am not gonna lie, I am not big on gamer bros, but he was just so cute and clumsy on their first date that I couldn't help but to fall in love. The imagery of his brain fogging up, him saying incredibly stupid and corny jokes, knowing all the good places to eat, and just wanting to spend more time with her was so endearing. It also doesn't hurt that he is hot as hell and was able to pull off any outfit. Partly because of my obsession with the male lead, I was incredibly invested in the two leads' relationship. I loved that it started off with her not really being into him but after he does some nice things for her and she opens her heart to him, they start dating and we actually get to see their relationship develop, which is something I don't see often in kdramas. I feel like they always get together at the end, and we never get to see how they actually interact as romantic couple. So, being able to see their partnership grow with all of the heartwarming moments and fights was so beautiful and easily skyrocketed this to one of my favorite dramas of all time
The novel part about this story are the titular cells. We get to see how the two leads' sort of function through these adorable little cells. I feel like they bring a more entertaining and humorous way to visualize what someone is thinking and how they process information rather than something like a voiceover. It gave the main characters so much increased depth, since we are able to really see their perspective and how they think. We also got to see their growth as people through their relationship which I loved as well. For example, Woong learned that marriage might be something that he would want in the future and how to put others first. It was just so nice to see actual character development.
That being said, there some aspects of one's personality that one cannot change, and unfortunately, that was what ended in their breakup. I was so gutted when I saw the spoilers for this. I know the manhwa came out forever ago, but I didn't know of its existence and was so bummed that Woong and Yumi were not going to stay together. Even though I knew this, I bawled when they broke up. I had become so attached to the two of them that I wanted so much for them to work it out. When they flipped those cards, my heart sank. I know Babi is the lead for season 2, but for the little bits that they showed of him, he's just not as endearing as Woong. Even though months have passed, I am still not over this.
I saw that the second season has finally started airing and you bet your bottom dollar that I will be watching. every single episode. So far, 4 episodes have been released with only 2 episodes available for free on Viki. I am not quite sure how if they are going to leave those episodes behind a pay wall or not, but we will see as more episodes are released. I might talk about it as I watch every few episodes. I don't know, as always, it depends on how I feel. I just kind of wanted to remind myself, and possibly anyone reading, of some very general plot points and just how wonderful this show is. So...Um...Yeah...
