I'm not sure if this genre was always popular, but recently I have found and have been reading so many isekai manhwas. To be honest, I am not completely sure why because the ones I have been reading ALL HAVE THE SAME PLOT. There are some variations but the differences are so minuscule. So, I thought it would be fun to evaluate all of the isekai manhwas I have been reading. Before I start ranking them, let me explain what isekai is. The isekai genre is where someone is transported into another world. That's it. Also, here are some basic similarities between all of these manhwas.
1. They are all manhwas.
I did not realize this until just now with having to change "manga" to "comic" to "manhwa". They just all happen to be Korean manhwas, so I guess this whole isekai has hit a boom over there.
2. They are all incomplete.
I personally find this quite annoying, especially during this COVID quarantine. I have horrible memory and with all the plots being quite similar, I easily forget what is going on in the story and which one is which.
3. All the main characters get transported to a European historicalish era.
They all have a clear monarchy caste system sort of thing going on, but they are all made up worlds, so it's not exactly renaissance or medieval. However, it does have that whole big dresses, no electricity, etiquette thing going on.
Ok, so now onto the actual ranking. I'm not gonna lie, I probably will change my mind when the next chapter of one of these come out because I get all of these stories mixed up and I forget half of what happens. Also, I really like all of these manhwas, thus why I am reading them, so ranking them all is really difficult
6. Beatrice
The reason this is ranked so last is because there are only 38 chapters released and I can't quite gauge whether or not I like the story based on what little story I have available. In these 38 chapters, we have the main character who is a princess and her kingdom was taken over by another kingdom, so she has to go into hiding as a slave(?). Anyway, we find out early on that she is from another world (our world maybe?) where she was a veterinarian and she uses those skills to survive. I think the premise is interesting and the art, like for all of these manhwas, is really good, which is why I am reading it.
5. La Dolce Vita di Adelaide
In this story, a girl gets hit by a car and is transported into a new world. After growing to the age of 16 or something, the main character hears of another person that appeared out of nowhere and might have magical powers in the capital, and she goes to investigate thinking that this person might be from her world. A lot of shit happens and she ends up engaged with the Duke. I think the story is coming to an end, since everything seems to wrapping up, so I can't wait for that. I feel that a lot of the characters could be more fleshed out. For example, it was mentioned that the male lead had some trauma and then that never came up again and he showed no signs of that throughout the rest of the story. I would have much rather seen him grow to overcome it. Additionally, the relationship between the two main characters also seemed to lack some development. Even though it wasn't, it felt like it was a love at first sight situation. I am also a little upset at what is going on in the story right now (Chapter 77), like I understand why it happening, but I am still upset and lowkey find it stupid.
4. Survive as the Hero's Wife
Fun Fact- I got this main character's backstory mixed up with the main character from La Dolce Vita di Adelaide. The main character of this story also gets hit by a car and is transported into a novel. Her character is crown prince's first wife that works against him for the queen (his stepmother). In the novel, he ends up killing her and marrying another woman. However, the main character knows this outcome and tries to work against it so she can get a civil divorce. What I like about this manhwa, is that the relationship between the main characters start when they are married at age 11/12. This allows for the development of trust and love to grow between them as they reach older ages in the story.
3. The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up At The Duke's Mansion
In this story, the main character is pushed off of a roof and is transported to a novel that she read. In the novel, she is a character that is supposed to die from poison by her fiance in the beginning of the story. In order to avoid death, she gets engaged with the Duke, and then the story continues from there (wow, where have I heard all of this before). I find the concept really interesting and I like the idea that there are consequences to changing the story like there is in time travel. There is also a lot of mysteries that need to be solved that kind of keeps you hooked. I really like the male lead and the relationship dynamic that the two have. I only really have one issue with the story which happens in Chapter 108. Spoiler alert: The male lead's arm should have stayed blown off, like why are there no consequences. Also the relationship went from 0-100 real quick, I wanted more development, but now they're already like fully in love and shit.
2. Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady With The Lamp
This backstory is a doozy, so strap on. The main character is a horrible person and gets killed by her husband, the crown prince. She is then transported to our world and becomes a doctor. She dies in a plane crash and is transported back to her first life before she marries the crown prince. She then uses her medical skills to become a doctor instead of marrying the prince. So, my favorite part of this story is the medical shit. I am a public health major and I fucking loved trying to diagnose patients and knowing what techniques and applications she's using (cause they are not fake, except for the magic related stuff). That shit is my jam. The only issue I have with this story is that I wished that the author waited a bit more before solidifying the main characters' relationship, because we have a lot more story to go, but not much more development for the relationship. I also am a little sad that they aren't focusing as heavily on the medical stuff, which is understandable because there is more important plot stuff going on.
1. The Justice of a Villainous Woman
I thought this backstory was the one for the 2 car crashes but it was this one. A girl drunkenly falls into a river and drowns after she catches her boyfriend with her friend. She is then transported to another world where, like in Doctor Elise, she is a horrible person that is vying for the affection of the crown prince. There's this whole competition game thing on that I really like. I also find the development of the characters and the reasonings behind what they do to be extremely interesting as well and properly fleshed out. I am really looking forward for this manhwa to continue.
Anyway, these are 5 isekai manhwas that I am reading right now. I'm sure you can see the similarities between all of them and hopefully understand why I get them all confused. I honestly really like them all and had to rearrange the list multiple times. I highly recommend any of these of this sort of premise interests you. Also, I am reading a lot of other comics that fit into some of these descriptions that I am really into but probably won't include in a separate post, so I will just add them down here. Just a side note, all of these are also incomplete, so we love that for us.
Anyway, here's a more manga/anime related post after basically never talking about it. I'm also planning to talk about manga/manhwa adaptations into kdramas (which would really tie everything together because a lot of them have kpop idols in them) and we are getting there I have 2 of them mapped out, I just need to rewatch and reread to remember wtf happened. I hope these comic suggestions can hold you over a bit for these stressful times. So... Um... Yeah...

- Abandoned Empress- Like Doctor Elise, the main character dies and is reborn in her body in the past to fix her mistakes and avoid getting killed. It is also set in this "historical" kind of era but in a world different from ours. I absolutely adore this manhwa, and probably should write a separate post on it, but probably won't until it finishes. There are serious character developments and it moves at a slow enough pace for these developments but fast enough to be interesting.
- Goddess Creation System- This is an isekai manhua, where the main character died and is now transported into a different world that is set up into a kind of game where she gets points and has to complete different tasks. She goes to different eras in history and collects multiple love interests, which can keep you interested.
- Journey to The Past- This story I actually am planning on making a separate post for because I really like the author, who happens to write a lot of isekais, so I'll keep it brief. This is an isekai manhua, much like Goddess Creation System, where the main character travels to different points in history to complete different tasks and collects several love interests.
- A Capable Maid- This is a "historical" manhwa, like Beatrice, where the main character is a princess in hiding. She extremely kindhearted and gets blessed with the power to basically do anything she wants and uses it to help people.
- Lucia- This is another "historical" manhwa. The main character is able to see the future and in order to prevent it from happening by getting engaged to a Duke (wow, everyone's marrying a duke). The premise is interesting, but I find the relationship to be a bit too fast paced for me, like I am on Chapter 58. Also, just a heads up, this one is a little racy so I wouldn't suggest reading it unless you are of age or whatever.
- Inso's Law- I love this manhwa a lot and might actually make a separate post on it because I really do like it. This is an isekai where the main character is transported into a school life comic as that comic's main character's best friend (that was some weird wording, hopefully it makes sense).
Anyway, here's a more manga/anime related post after basically never talking about it.
