Ok, so I have a lot of opinions on this one. First off, YAY A NEW LOONA SONG!! I love that it is a mature concept since it allows a lot of the members who we have seen doing more cutesy concepts take on something new.
I am, as always, disappointed by distribution of screen time. I know with so many members it is difficult to give everyone an equal contribution, but still... I cant even deal with this. My bias is Hyunjin and I swear to god I saw her for like 1 full second because she was the center dancer for the second chorus. But, of course, I saw Heejin like 20 times. I do have to give it to them, they really did improve on the line distribution, and I really appreciate that. THANK YOU BLOCKBERRY! However, there was a serious lack of screen time for a lot of the members. In this video, I really wanted to see ViVi, Yeojin, Gowon, and Chuu to see how they worked with this more mature concept. However, I barely saw them. I saw Yeojin really quick singing "I'd rather be around you" in the second verse, Gowon during the rap section, Vivi for a split second in the first verse, and Chuu also really quick in the first verse. I really hope that they release a dance version so that we can see everyone a bit more.
Other than that, I was fairly happy with the video. I appreciated the diversity of the other people in video. I also enjoyed seeing that one girl dance in the first chorus, it was really expressive, you could feel the emotion. I just really love seeing non-kpop dancers dance because they just show so much emotion that you don't always get from structured, synchronized kpop dances. Can I also just say thank you for giving Hyunjin a center part for dancing because her dancing is so underrated. I feel like people forget that she did so well on dancing in MixNine, like she was in the dance sections, got complemented for her dancing by the judges, and even won a challenge for dancing. On a different note, Choerry and Haseul's hair 😍. I love Choerry's purple, it's such a nice color and I love how it's her color too. (I know they also changed Kim Lip's hair, but I"m honestly not a big fan of the blond tips. If they just dyed her entire head that brown I would have liked it better) I also love Haseul's short hair. It really suits her and this concept. I also think that her voice is perfect for this song. Every part she sang was honestly my favorite part of the song.
That being said, I don't like the chorus. Please don't kill me. I love the beat and giving them like a dance break, which allows them to showcase their dancing, which they don't do as often as showcasing their singing/rapping. But I just don't like the melody of "fly like a butterfly" or the insane high pitch of "wings, wings" and that high pitched "fly like a butterfly" in the middle of the dance break. I got headaches from that while listening with my earphones, but I'm sure I'll grow used to it and start liking it after the 20th listening. All the other parts of the song though were good. I found it interesting that they used Choerry and Gowon as the rappers in this song after heavily promoting Jinsoul as the rapper. I appreciated it though because it allowed us to look at them a little bit more as rappers instead of sub-vocal/sub-rap or whatever their titles are.
Anyway, even though I complained a lot in this, I really did enjoy the song and video. I love LOONA's ability to try different concepts from girl crush in favorite (I'm not going to even bother with the capitalizations in that one), a more fun concept in Hi High, and now a more mature concept in Butterfly. I put the video below if you wanna see it, so please check it out. So...um...yeah...
P.S. I just realized after my last viewing that Olivia Hye has black to blue ombre. It's cute 👍
